65+ Year Proud Tradition & Global Best Practices
Shishu Vihar Higher Secondary School is one of the oldest schools in Dewas, India started in 1953 by Hon. Anantrao Patwardhan (First Speaker of the Madhya Bharat Assembly). Our school alumni include top government officers, doctors, lawyers, businessmen, artists and have other leadership positions in society.
Our school is today bringing affordable education best practices from top-ranked countries like Finland, Switzerland, Singapore etc to rural settings in India.
We offer classes from Kindergarten to XIIth Grade with three streams: Math, Biology and Commerce, and have about 600 students in our school (2 campuses).
We endeavour to create a caring atmosphere for students, empower them with educational and life skills, and foster initiative. Our international best practices focus on 3 key areas: 1) academic excellence 2) happiness and 3) social responsibility.
This year we expanded to one smaller school campus in a village close to Dewas and look forward to further expansion in the coming years.

Our approach is based on 3 values
Academic Excellence
- Mastery based learning
- Solving projects with a multidisciplinary approach - Encouraging student enquiry, critical thinking, analytical thinking, logical skills, and class discussions and debates - Using online tools e.g. Khan Academy videos, educational documentaries, etc to augment textbooks - Student involvement in personal goal setting and regular feedback with teachers - Frequent testing - Learning practical life skills - Teachers mentoring each other At Shishu Vihar Dewas, students are taught in a caring atmosphere, and at their own pace. This reduces unnecessary stress and they learn faster.

Happiness
- Academic excellence is incomplete without ensuring the well-being or happiness of students
- Studies show that happy students learn better - Happiness tools that the school is introducing include steps to reduce stress in students like meditation, stop bullying and create a healthy atmosphere between students, increase fun and celebration in learning, encourage students to take up sports, hobbies, outdoor activities, etc Our students are encouraged to explore their creativity and take part in local festivals, in addition to their studies.
|
Social Responsibility
- The ancient Sanskrit phrase of "वसुधैव कुटुम्बकं" or that “the world is one family” guides our approach to social responsibility
- We attempt to integrate social responsibility into the education experience by encouraging students to apply their learnings for the good of society via initiatives such as social harmony, cleanliness drives, tree plantation, animal welfare, etc - Applying concepts learnt in the education process to solving practical problems enhances creativity and further cements learning We integrate social responsibility by encouraging students to apply their learnings for sustainable projects such as organic farming in this video.
